Cruise in brief

World Heritage-listed Fraser Island sits with Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef as one of Australia’s ‘must see’ natural wonders. This 700,000-year-old island is a vast storehouse of rare and unique fauna, flora and scientifically important ecosystems. The island’s fascinating human history, superb climate and stunning natural beauty only add to its trophy status as an unforgettable destination.

And then there are the whales.

Humpback WhaleFraser Island cradles Hervey Bay - perhaps the world’s most famous whale-watching paradise from July to October and playground for an incredible array of ‘charismatic mega-fauna’, encounters with which often last just minutes, but are remembered for ever.

Now one of Australia’s largest eco-tourism cruise operators, World Heritage Cruises, and Fraser Island’s multi-award winning Kingfisher Bay Resort, have come together to create a four-day adventure which adds the special qualities of luxury small ship cruising to all the spectacular features of the Fraser Coast and delivers a wonderfully relaxing, rewarding and memorable travel experience.

Live-aboardAeroplane on Seventy Five Mile Beach, overnight cruising in the protected waters of the Hervey Bay Marine Park allows Discovery’s 24 passengers exclusive opportunities to observe whales (from July) , manatees (dugongs), dolphins and turtles in the undisturbed tranquility of early morning and the soft light of dusk, as well as the captivating experience of listening to whale-song under a starry sky.

During daylight hours, kayaking and excursions to isolated beaches, together with a personally guided tour of Fraser Island’s ‘hidden secrets’, a scenic flight over the island and a visit to Kingfisher Bay Village ensure this luxury cruise stays front-of-mind for ever.

Every day will also bring an extraordinary culinary experience with Discovery’s on-board Executive Chef offering a superb ‘Tastes of Tasmania’ menu complemented with famous Tasmanian wines, local reef fish and the fruits of the tropics.

Hervey Bay’s brand new airport now provides jet access from around Australia through Sydney and the cruise includes all airport transfers.
